The London session is the main event. The New York session is the encore.

That is not a diminishment — the NYC Reversal is a real, repeatable, profitable trade. But it is important to be clear about its role in the cycle before we cover it in detail. The New York session does not generate a new institutional move from scratch. It completes the one that London started, and then offers a specific reversal opportunity as the cycle closes out and price begins returning toward equilibrium.

London sets the direction and runs the move. New York completes it, reverses it, and closes the book. Two different jobs — same method, different expectations.

This distinction matters practically. If you approach the New York session expecting a 100-pip trend run, you will be disappointed and you will overtrade. If you approach it knowing it offers a clean 40–50 pip reversal trade in a specific window under specific conditions, you will be prepared — and you will take the trade correctly when it sets up.

What the New York Session Actually Does

The New York session opens at 9:30 AM Eastern Time with the equities market. This is not a coincidence — the forex and equities markets are deeply connected at the institutional level, and the New York equities open brings a fresh wave of institutional activity that often completes what London started.

By the time New York opens, the London session has typically run Level I and Level II of the true trend. Price has moved significantly from the stop hunt reversal point. The opposite HOD or LOD — the target the institutions were moving toward — is either at or near being reached.

The New York session's structural role in the cycle is threefold:

Complete Level III — the choppy, wide, profit-taking phase that ends the directional move
Set the opposite HOD or LOD — the extreme on the other side of the day's range from the London stop hunt
Execute the NYC Reversal — the return move back toward the midpoint of the day as the cycle closes and institutions exit their positions

The NYC Reversal Trade — Conditions and Entry

The NYC Reversal is a specific trade setup that occurs during the first 1–3 hours of the New York session. It is not a guess at direction — it is a structured entry based on a defined set of conditions that tell you the cycle is completing and a return move is imminent.

All five of the following conditions should be present before considering an entry:

1	Cycle Phase Level III Behaviour Visible	Price is moving in a wide, choppy, disorganised range. Candles are irregular. Momentum has clearly faded from the Level I and II trend run.	Confirms the directional move is complete and the institutions are in profit-taking mode — not continuing the trend. If Level III is not visible, the move may still be running. Do not enter early.
2	Price Level Opposite HOD/LOD Reached or Close	Price has reached or is approaching the extreme on the opposite side of the day's range from the London stop hunt.	The institutions were moving toward this level all day. When it is reached, the reason to continue in that direction is gone. This is the natural turning point of the daily cycle — not a guess, a destination.
3	Indicator EMAs Are Stretched	Price has moved significantly away from the 50 EMA and 200 EMA on the M15 chart. The gap between price and the averages is unusually wide.	Price always returns to the 200 EMA. An extreme EMA stretch is a coil under tension — the wider the gap, the stronger the gravitational pull back toward the average. This is not prediction. It is mechanics.
4	Entry Signal Reversal Candle Printed	A clear reversal candle — hammer, doji, RRT, morning or evening star — closes at or near the opposite HOD/LOD after the conditions above are met.	The candlestick is not a standalone signal. Without the prior four conditions it is meaningless. With them it is the final confirmation the reversal has begun and it is time to act.
5	Range ADR Has Been Met	The Average Daily Range has been reached or nearly reached — price has already covered its expected daily distance from the 5:00 PM reset.	When the ADR is met, the statistical probability of further directional extension drops sharply. A return move becomes the path of least resistance. ADR alignment raises conviction significantly.

NYC Reversal Entry Rules

Entry: Close of the reversal candle on M15 at the opposite HOD/LOD — same candle-close discipline as the London entry. No chasing mid-candle.

Stop loss: 15–20 pip beyond the extreme of the reversal candle. Slightly wider than the London stop because Level III candles are noisier.

Target: The 50 EMA on M15, or the midpoint of the day's range — whichever comes first. Expect 40–50 pip. Smaller target than the London trade by design.

Two-hour clock: If price has not moved 20–25 pip in your direction within two hours of entry — exit and close out for the day.

London vs New York — Know the Difference

The two trading windows in this method are not interchangeable. They have different characters, different expectations, and different requirements. Understanding the distinction clearly prevents two of the most common errors — treating the NYC Reversal like a London trade and overtrading the New York session looking for moves that are not there.

When to Skip the NYC Reversal

Not every day offers a clean NYC Reversal setup. If Level III has not clearly completed, if the opposite HOD/LOD has not been reached, if the EMAs are not stretched, or if the reversal candle is absent — there is no trade. The New York session without a valid setup is not a hunting ground. It is dead time. Log off and return tomorrow.

There is also a practical consideration worth stating directly. By the time the New York session opens you have likely been at your desk since before 3:00 AM. You have managed a London trade. You are tired. Fatigue is one of the most underappreciated risks in trading — it lowers patience, raises impulsiveness, and degrades the quality of every decision. If you took a clean London trade and hit your target, the professional move is often to close the platform and step away. The NYC Reversal is a bonus — not an obligation.

The Trader Who Only Trades New York

Some traders using this method trade exclusively from the New York session. They sleep through London, wake at 9:00 AM, assess what happened overnight, identify whether the conditions for an NYC Reversal are present, and take the trade if they are. The target is smaller. The frequency is lower. But the quality of life is significantly better — and a well-executed NYC Reversal setup is still a very good trade. If your schedule makes London impossible, New York is not a compromise. It is a legitimate path.
