Module 6 — Lesson 1

One of the most common mistakes developing traders make is switching between pairs constantly — chasing the one that is moving, the one that had a big day yesterday, or the one someone mentioned in a trading group. This approach produces inconsistency. You never develop the deep familiarity with a pair's behaviour that makes the method highly effective.

This lesson gives you a clear, permanent hierarchy. A primary pair. Secondary pairs. Advanced pairs for when you are ready. And pairs to avoid entirely with this method. Pick your pair, learn it deeply, and stay with it. That is how pattern recognition becomes automatic.

Every pair has a personality. The traders who get best results from this method are the ones who know their pair's personality so well they can feel when it is in cycle and when it is not — before they even look at the chart.

The Pair Hierarchy

Four tiers. Every pair you might consider trading sits in one of them. Start at the top and work down only when you are consistently profitable at the current tier.

GBP/USD Tier 1 — Primary ADR: 80–120 pip Cable is the method's home pair. The highest institutional participation of any major, the cleanest stop hunts, the most readable M and W formations, and the most consistent London session cycle. The 3-push stop hunt fires on GBP/USD with more regularity and precision than any other pair. This is where the method was built and where it performs best. → Start here. Stay here until the method is automatic. EUR/USD Tier 2 — Secondary ADR: 60–90 pip The most liquid pair in the world. Tighter range than Cable but extremely clean institutional cycle mechanics. Stop hunts are slightly less dramatic but more consistent. The M and W formations are textbook. Strong London and New York session participation. An excellent second pair once GBP/USD is well understood. → Add after 3 months of consistent GBP/USD results. EUR/GBP Tier 2 — Secondary ADR: 40–65 pip A slower, quieter pair that often moves inversely to GBP/USD. Useful as a confluence confirmation tool — if EUR/GBP is also showing a stop hunt in the opposite direction of your GBP/USD setup, the institutional move has cross-pair support. Tighter range means smaller pip targets and tighter stops required. → Use primarily for confluence confirmation, not as a standalone trade pair. GBP/JPY Tier 3 — Advanced ADR: 120–180 pip The most volatile major cross. The cycle mechanics are identical to GBP/USD but the range is significantly larger — which means larger stops are required and the M and W formations can span 30–40 pip rather than 15–20. The reward potential is proportionally higher. Experienced traders who have mastered Cable often add GBP/JPY as their primary growth pair. → Only after 6+ months of consistent results on Tier 1 and 2 pairs. EUR/JPY Tier 3 — Advanced ADR: 80–120 pip Strong institutional participation with a range similar to GBP/USD. JPY pairs tend to be more reactive to news events and risk sentiment shifts — adding a layer of macro awareness that Tier 1 and 2 pairs do not require. Clean cycle mechanics when in a stable macro environment. → Solid advanced pair. Same timing as GBP/JPY for introduction.

Pairs to Avoid With This Method

Exotic Pairs Skip — Always USD/TRY, USD/ZAR, USD/MXN and similar exotic pairs have wide spreads, thin liquidity, and unpredictable institutional behaviour. The stop hunt mechanics do not apply cleanly. News and political events can produce extreme moves that have nothing to do with the institutional cycle. Avoid entirely. → The edge does not exist here. Do not trade them with this method. Commodity Pairs During News Caution — Situational AUD/USD, USD/CAD, and NZD/USD are commodity-correlated. They follow the institutional cycle mechanics in normal conditions but are significantly disrupted by oil prices (CAD), commodity indices (AUD, NZD), and their respective central bank decisions. These can be valid secondary pairs for advanced traders who also monitor macro commodity conditions. For the Core Framework, they add complexity that is not necessary. → Not recommended for core method application. Optional for advanced traders with macro awareness.

Why Pair Selection Matters More Than You Think

Every pair has different institutional participants, different spread characteristics, different typical stop hunt distances, and different ADR profiles. A trader who jumps between pairs is effectively trading a different method every day — the patterns look similar but the calibration is different on each one.

The traders who achieve the most consistent results with this method share one common behaviour: they trade one or two pairs for months before adding more. They know the pair's typical Asian range. They know approximately how far its stop hunts extend. They know how its M and W formations tend to look. They know how it behaves around news. That depth of familiarity is not achievable by pair-hopping.

The Pair Selection Rule

Choose GBP/USD as your primary pair. Master it completely. Add EUR/USD as a secondary pair when GBP/USD results are consistent over 3 months. Do not add a Tier 3 pair until Tier 1 and 2 are both consistently profitable over 6 months.

More pairs is not more opportunity. More pairs is more complexity, more screen time, more decisions, and more opportunities to make errors. One pair done well beats five pairs done poorly every time.

Using Multiple Pairs for Confluence

Even if you are only actively trading GBP/USD, watching EUR/USD alongside it adds a layer of confirmation. When both pairs are showing stop hunt setups in the same direction at the same time — the London session move is likely to be strong and committed. When GBP/USD is showing a setup but EUR/USD is not confirming — reduce size or skip the session. Currency correlation as a confluence tool is covered in detail in the next lesson.

Watching EUR/USD alongside a GBP/USD trade adds cross-pair confluence. Both pairs confirming the same direction raises conviction. One confirming and one not lowers it.
