Not every session produces a setup. Not every pair produces a setup every day. Part of what makes this method work over time is the discipline to recognise when a pair is not in cycle — and walk away without forcing a trade that was never really there.

This is one of the hardest skills to develop because it requires you to do nothing. You woke up early, you ran through the checklist, you are ready to trade — and then the market tells you that today is not the day. Accepting that clearly and quickly, without second-guessing it or manufacturing a reason to enter, is a mark of a mature trader.

The sessions you skip cleanly are protecting the account for the sessions where the edge is real. Every unnecessary trade costs either money or emotional capital — usually both.

The Seven Signals That a Pair Is Not in Cycle

A pair that is not in cycle will show one or more of these signals clearly before the London open — often visible during the pre-session Phase 2 read. When you see them, the decision is made before London even opens.

The Asian Range Is Blown Out The Asia box is wider than 70 pip. Price trended significantly during the Asian session rather than consolidating. There is no clean range to mark, no meaningful equal highs or lows, and no compressed spring to release. The accumulation phase did not occur — which means the stop hunt has nothing to fire from. Skip the session on this pair.

High-Impact News Is Firing in the First Two Hours A red-folder event — NFP, FOMC, CPI, Bank of England decision — is scheduled within the first two hours of London. The institutional cycle is disrupted by news-driven volatility. The stop hunt may fire in an unusual direction or at an unusual distance. The M or W may not form cleanly. The risk profile of any entry during or immediately before this window is significantly elevated.

It Is Monday, Friday, or a Holiday Week Monday sessions frequently produce incomplete or irregular cycles as the weekly institutional positioning is still establishing. Friday sessions carry rollover risk and reduced commitment from institutional participants closing positions before the weekend. Holiday weeks have thin liquidity across all sessions. These are not automatic skips — but they require elevated scrutiny and reduced size if traded.

The ADR Is Already Exhausted Before London The pair has already moved 80% or more of its average daily range during the Asian session. The statistical room for a full London move to develop is insufficient. Even if a stop hunt fires, the reversal may only cover 15–20 pip before the day is statistically exhausted. The risk-reward of a 50-pip target against a 7 or 23-pip stop is no longer justified.

No Clear Equal Highs or Lows — No Identifiable Stop Cluster The Asian session produced a clean range but there are no visible stop clusters on either side — no equal highs, no equal lows, no clear level that the stop hunt would be targeting. Without a defined target, the stop hunt direction is unknown and the entry cannot be pre-planned with the precision this method requires.

Price Is Trending — Not Cycling The pair has been in a strong directional trend for multiple days. The EMAs are stacked cleanly in one direction and price has not returned to the green 50 EMA in over 48 hours. This is a trending environment rather than a cycling one. The stop hunt and M/W entry mechanics still apply — but setups are less frequent and the accumulation is harder to read. Experienced traders reduce size in trending environments.

The Stop Hunt Fired — But No M or W Is Forming The 3-push stop hunt completed and the HOD or LOD is set — but price is simply falling or rising without forming the structured retracement and second leg that creates the M or W. This can happen when the institutional move is one-sided and the reversal does not have enough counter-pressure to form the pattern. No M or W means no valid entry signal. Watch — do not enter.

What to Do When the Primary Pair Is Not in Cycle

When GBP/USD is not producing a valid setup, the response is not to search harder for a reason to trade it. The response is to check the secondary pair — and if that is also not in cycle, to close the platform and come back tomorrow.

GBP/USD stop hunt fired but no M/W	Wait up to 60 minutes for the M/W to develop on GBP/USD before abandoning it.	If M/W does not form within 60 minutes of the stop hunt completing — the pattern is not going to form cleanly. Move on or check the NYC Reversal window later.
Neither pair in cycle	Log as a no-trade day. Check the NYC Reversal at 9:30 AM ET.	If the NYC Reversal conditions are also absent — close the platform. Today is not a trading day. That is a legitimate outcome.

The Pair Switch Rule

Switching from GBP/USD to EUR/USD mid-session because GBP/USD is not producing a setup is legitimate — with two conditions. First, EUR/USD must independently meet the pre-session criteria. Second, you must have watched EUR/USD through the pre-session read. Switching to a pair you have not been tracking since the pre-session assessment is not a valid pair switch — it is an impulse trade dressed as one.

The Force Trade

The most expensive habit a developing trader can develop is forcing a trade on a day when the conditions do not support one. It happens because waking up early creates a psychological pressure to justify the effort with a trade. That pressure is not a valid reason to enter. The market does not reward effort. It rewards patience and precision. A day with no trade and no loss is a profitable outcome compared to a day with a forced trade and a loss.

Logging the No-Trade Day

Every no-trade day gets a journal entry just like every trade day. Two lines: the date, and the reason for the skip. "GBP/USD blown-out range — 72 pip Asian session, no clean equal highs. EUR/USD also wide. No-trade day." Over time this journal becomes one of the most valuable tools you have — it shows you exactly how often the market is not in cycle and confirms that skipping those sessions was the correct decision statistically.

Not every day is a trading day. The traders who last know the difference — and are at peace with it.
