Every concept in Module 1 — the three weapons, the institutional process, the reason retail methods fail — was building toward this moment. The stop hunt is where all of it becomes visible on the chart in real time.

This is the most important single event in the trading day. It is the mechanism that sets the HOD or LOD, collects the liquidity the institutions need, and triggers the reversal that becomes your trade. Miss it and you miss the setup. Misread it and you enter in the wrong direction. Understand it fully and you will never be surprised by a market move again.

The stop hunt is not something that happens to you. Once you understand it, it is something you watch execute — and then position on the other side of.

This lesson dissects the stop hunt move completely. What it looks like. How it unfolds push by push. What retail traders are doing at each stage. What the institutions are accomplishing. And most importantly — how to tell when it is complete so you know it is time to prepare for the entry.

Why the Stop Hunt Has to Happen

To understand the stop hunt you have to understand the problem the institutions are solving. They need to move a position worth hundreds of millions — sometimes billions — of dollars in a specific direction. To do that, they need the other side of those trades. They need sellers when they want to buy, and buyers when they want to sell. At institutional scale, those counterparties don't appear organically. They have to be manufactured.

The stop hunt manufactures them. A deliberate push outside the Asian range achieves three things simultaneously:

Triggers stop losses from traders positioned correctly inside the range — converting their losing positions into market orders that the institution absorbs
Induces breakout entries from traders who see the move as a continuation and enter in the direction of the push — providing even more orders in the wrong direction
Sets the HOD or LOD at the extreme of the push — establishing the price level that the day's cycle will reference as its turning point

When all three objectives are met, the institutions have what they need. The reversal begins almost immediately — often within minutes of the final push completing.

The Key Insight

The stop hunt is not a random market event. It is a structured collection operation. The institutions are not chasing price higher or lower because of momentum — they are engineering a specific price level to visit a specific pool of orders. Once you see it through that lens, the entire move becomes readable in real time.

The 3-Push Sequence — Push by Push

The stop hunt almost always unfolds in three distinct pushes with a pause between each one. The pauses are not rest — they are deliberate. The pause allows more retail traders to commit to the wrong side before the next push extends the trap further. Each push serves a specific purpose.

Push 1 The First Break — ~20–25 pip What retail traders do: The first stops inside the Asian range trigger. Breakout traders see the move and enter in the direction of the break. "Price is breaking out — this is the move." What the institutions are doing: Clearing the first layer of stop orders. Beginning to accumulate orders on the opposite side. Testing the level. Pause ~1hr The Consolidation — 3 to 6 candles What retail traders do: Price consolidating after the break. Looks like a bull flag or bear flag. More traders enter in the direction of the push. "The pullback is over — continuation incoming." What the institutions are doing: Allowing more trapped volume to accumulate. The pause makes the breakout look more legitimate. More orders entering on the wrong side means more fuel for the reversal. Push 2 The Confirmation — ~15–20 more pip What retail traders do: "Breakout confirmed." Maximum FOMO. Even more entries in the push direction. Traders who missed the first push pile in on Push 2. What the institutions are doing: Accumulating a larger short position against the trapped longs. Volume builds. The spread may widen slightly at the extreme. Pause ~30m The Second Consolidation What retail traders do: "Higher high confirmed. Trend is up. This is a new leg." Adding to positions. Moving stops to breakeven on the first push. What the institutions are doing: Final accumulation. Maximum inventory assembled. Preparing for the reversal push that clears all of it. Push 3 The Final Tap — 5 to 10 pip pin What retail traders do: Last stops triggered. Final breakout entries. The move feels inevitable at this point — almost everyone is positioned the same way. What the institutions are doing: Completing the collection. The HOD or LOD is set. Maximum trapped volume. The reversal begins within minutes — sometimes within the same candle. The Most Expensive Mistake in This Method

Entering in the direction of Push 3 is the single most expensive mistake a developing trader makes. Push 3 feels like the strongest confirmation — "three pushes in the same direction, trend must be continuing." That feeling is the trap completing. Push 3 is the final collection. The reversal follows Push 3 almost every time. Never enter in the direction of the stop hunt.

How to Confirm the Stop Hunt Is Complete

Knowing a stop hunt is happening is not enough on its own. You need to know when it is done — because that is when you begin preparing for the entry. Entering too early, before the stop hunt has fully completed, is one of the most common errors at this stage of the method.

Here are the five signals that confirm the stop hunt has completed and the reversal is beginning:

Signal	What to Look For	Why It Confirms Completion
The Pin Candle	A long upper wick (on a bearish stop hunt) or long lower wick (on a bullish stop hunt) with a small body at the extreme. Price pushed hard in the hunt direction, then closed back significantly lower or higher.	The wick is the fingerprint of rejection. The institutions pushed to the level, collected what they needed, and price snapped back. This is the most reliable single-candle completion signal.
The Volume Spike	An unusually high volume bar at or near the extreme of the 3rd push. Volume visibly higher than the surrounding candles.	High volume at the extreme means a large number of orders were executed there — exactly what the collection operation looks like on volume. After peak collection, the next move is the reversal.
The Failed Push	Price attempts to extend beyond the Push 3 extreme and fails — candle closes back below the extreme. Two or three candles attempting the same level and unable to hold above it.	Exhaustion at the extreme. No more trapped retail entering in the push direction. The institutions have what they need. The next significant move is away from this level.
The Spread Widening	The bid-ask spread on your chart visibly widens at the extreme. On MT4 this shows as unusually large candle wicks on the 1-minute chart.	The broker desk is active at this level. Spread widening at extremes is a consistent fingerprint of the institutional collection mechanism in operation.
The Equal High/Low Tagged	The stop hunt reaches exactly the equal high or equal low you marked during the Asian session — the visible stop cluster you identified before London opened.	The predetermined target has been reached. The stop hunt executed precisely to the level you marked. When a marked cluster is tagged and price stalls, the operation is complete.

Confirmation Rule

You do not need all five signals. You need at least two — and the pin candle or the equal high/low tagged should be one of them. A pin candle at a marked equal high with a volume spike is three signals — that is a high-conviction completion. A candle that looks like a push 3 but has none of the above? That may not be Push 3. Wait for confirmation before calling the stop hunt complete.

Stop Hunt Variations — When It Doesn't Look Textbook

The 3-push sequence is the standard form. But the institutional process is flexible — it achieves the same goal through variations when standard conditions are not present. Knowing the variations means you are never thrown off by a stop hunt that looks slightly different from the textbook.

Variation	What It Looks Like	How to Handle It
The Extended Hunt	Push 3 goes significantly further than expected — 60, 70, even 80 pip beyond the range instead of the typical 30–50. A 4th or 5th push may appear.	The collection needed more volume. Wait for the pin or exhaustion signal at the new extreme. Same rules apply — just at a higher level. The M or W that forms will be at the extended level.
The Double Hunt	Price spikes above the Asian high, returns, then spikes below the Asian low — hitting stops on both sides before the real reversal begins.	The second spike is the true stop hunt. The M or W that forms after the second spike is your entry. Do not trade after the first spike — wait for the second side to complete.
The Compressed Hunt	The three pushes happen very quickly — within 2–3 candles rather than over an hour. Often occurs when the Asian range was very tight and the pressure release is fast and violent.	Same signals apply — pin candle, volume spike, equal high/low tagged. The speed is different, the structure is the same. Tight ranges produce fast, explosive stop hunts.
The News-Assisted Hunt	A high-impact news event fires during the hunt window and the spike candle completes the stop hunt in one massive move rather than three measured pushes.	Wait for the spike to settle. The M or W forms in the 15–30 minutes after the news candle. The entry rules are identical — the news candle simply replaced the 3-push sequence as the delivery mechanism.
The Asian-Session Hunt	The stop hunt fires during the Asian session rather than London — unusual but more common during high-liquidity Asian periods or around major news events.	The standard London entry timing no longer applies. Reassess the cycle position. If a clean M or W forms after an Asian-session stop hunt, the entry rules are the same — but sizing should be reduced as this is a lower-frequency pattern.

Standard or variation — the structure is always the same. Induce. Collect. Reverse. Find the pattern in whatever form it takes.
