Module 11 — Lesson 2

Every trader who works through this method will make mistakes. Not because the method is unclear — it is not. Because applying any structured framework to live market conditions, with real money at risk, under time pressure and emotional influence, produces errors. That is not a reflection of capability. It is a description of the environment.

The traders who improve fastest are not the ones who make the fewest mistakes initially. They are the ones who recognise mistakes quickly, name them precisely, and apply the specific correction rather than vague intentions to "do better." This lesson provides that precision — twelve of the most common mistakes in this method, written as honest descriptions of recognisable behaviour, each with a specific and implementable correction.

Reading this lesson before the mistakes happen is preparation. Reading it after they have already occurred in your journal is diagnosis. Both uses are valuable. Return to it whenever a pattern of errors appears in the review data.

Mistakes 1 Through 4 — Entry Errors

MISTAKE 01 Entering in the Direction of the Stop Hunt

The stop hunt fires upward with force and conviction. Push 2 has just completed. The candles are large and directional. Every retail breakout signal is flashing green. The feeling that this is the move is overwhelming — and the trade is entered long, in the direction of the push, right at Push 2 or Push 3.

This is the single most expensive entry error in the method. It puts the trade in the exact direction the institutions are collecting from — meaning the trader is providing the liquidity the stop hunt needs. Push 3 completes, the HOD is set, and price reverses immediately. The trade is stopped out — often for maximum loss — at the precise moment the correct entry signal is about to form.

The Correction Never enter in the direction of the stop hunt at any push. The stop hunt is the collection mechanism — not the entry signal. The entry signal is the M or W that forms after the stop hunt completes. If the urge to enter during the stop hunt push is strong, say aloud: "This is the trap completing. My entry comes after it." Then wait. MISTAKE 02 Entering Before the Leg 2 Candle Closes

The M or W formation is developing. Leg 2 has moved in the right direction and the candle looks like it is going to close with a clear directional body. It is mid-candle — 10 minutes into the 15-minute M15 bar — and the entry is placed before the close because "it is obviously going to confirm."

A candle that appears to be closing bearish with 5 minutes remaining can still close as a doji, as a small-bodied candle, or even reverse entirely in the final few minutes. Mid-candle entries based on how the candle looks in progress — rather than how it has closed — add noise to the entry process. Some will work. Some will not. The variance is unnecessary when the only correct trigger is the actual close.

The Correction Set a timer for the M15 candle close. Watch the clock, not the candle. The entry is placed on the open of the next candle — after the close has confirmed. Five extra minutes of patience protects against the false entries that mid-candle entries produce. The close is the signal. Nothing before it is. MISTAKE 03 Trading a Blown-Out Asian Range

The Asian range is 65 pip — clearly above the threshold where the setup has strong validity. But London has opened, price is moving, and the FOMO of not having a position is strong. A stop hunt develops on one side and an M or W forms — and the entry is taken despite the checklist having flagged the range as blown-out.

The wide Asian range means the stop hunt mechanics were weaker — less accumulated pressure to release, more scattered stop clusters rather than a concentrated pool, and the potential for the M or W to form with less institutional conviction behind it. Trades from blown-out ranges work occasionally. Over a large sample they underperform clean-range trades significantly.

The Correction The Asian range assessment is a hard filter — not a soft guideline. Over 70 pip is a skip. If the range is between 50 and 70 pip, size is reduced to 1% and the standard 23-pip stop is used regardless of how clean the formation looks. Write the range size in the session plan before London opens. The number is on the chart before the emotional pressure to trade arrives. MISTAKE 04 Skipping the Session Plan

The checklist is run — mostly — but the session plan sentence is not written. "I know what I am looking for, I do not need to write it down." London opens. A setup appears that does not quite match what the checklist identified but looks compelling. The entry is taken because there was no written plan to contradict it.

The session plan is not administrative overhead. It is the pre-commitment device that makes the session's decisions before the emotional pressure arrives. A written plan creates friction between the emotional impulse and the order entry screen. Without it, every marginal setup looks like an opportunity.

The Correction The session plan is the final item on the pre-session checklist — and the only item that produces a binary output: either a complete, specific one-sentence plan exists before London opens, or no trade is taken that session. No plan means no trade. This rule is absolute. Write the plan in the journal physically, not mentally.

Mistakes 5 Through 8 — Management Errors

MISTAKE 05 Moving the Stop to Breakeven Too Early

The trade is 30 pip in profit. The Level I consolidation has not yet occurred. The stop is moved to breakeven because "I want to protect what I have." The consolidation then arrives — as it always does — and price retraces 25 pip, stopping out the trade at entry before the continuation begins. The trader watches the trade resume and travel a further 80 pip without them.

Moving the stop to breakeven before 50 pip of profit turns the consolidation — a normal and expected part of the trade structure — into a loss-equivalent exit. The consolidation between Level I and Level II is designed to shake out exactly the traders who move their stops into the consolidation range early.

The Correction The stop moves to breakeven at exactly 50 pip of profit — not 30 pip, not 40 pip, not "when it looks like the move might reverse." At 50 pip. The number is specific because the Level I consolidation consistently falls within the 40–70 pip range from entry. Moving to breakeven at 50 pip puts the stop just outside that consolidation zone on most trades. MISTAKE 06 Tightening the Stop During the Consolidation

The stop is correctly at breakeven. The Level I consolidation is in progress. Price has moved 15 pip against the position within the consolidation band. The anxiety of watching the unrealised profit shrink produces an impulse to tighten the stop — to move it closer to the current price to "lock in more of the gain." The stop is moved. The consolidation touches it. The trade closes at 15 pip profit. The move then resumes and reaches 140 pip.

This is the consolidation trap described in Module 10 — executed in real time. The stop was placed correctly at breakeven. The consolidation was running its course. The emotional intervention produced an exit that cost 125 pip of potential profit.

The Correction During any consolidation phase — Level I or Level II — the stop does not move. Period. Not tighter. Not to lock in more. The stop is at breakeven or behind the prior consolidation — wherever the current rules dictate. It stays there until the consolidation resolves and the next level begins. Set a 20-minute timer and step away from the screen during consolidations. MISTAKE 07 Holding Through Level III Without Exiting Actively

The trade has run through Level I and Level II. Level III is clearly in progress — wide candles, irregular direction, volume patterns shifting. The trailing stop is in place but the decision to take active profit is delayed because the trade "still feels like it is going." The trailing stop eventually gets hit during one of Level III's erratic reversals — often 25 to 40 pip below where an active exit could have been taken.

Level III is not a continuation phase — it is a distribution phase. The institutions are exiting their position during Level III, which is exactly why the candles become wide and irregular. Treating it as additional trend to ride rather than as the exit zone produces consistently worse exits than active management.

The Correction When Level III character appears — wide candles, no clean directional momentum, ADR being approached — begin taking profit actively. Do not wait for the trailing stop to close the trade. Trail the stop tightly behind each small swing and take partial or full profit when the character clearly indicates the move is distributing. The exit is active, not passive. MISTAKE 08 Adding to a Losing Position

The trade is moving against the entry. Instead of letting the stop do its job, a second position is added at a better price to "average down" — lowering the average entry level with the belief that the trade will eventually come back. Sometimes it does. When it does not, two positions are stopped out instead of one and the loss is double what it would have been.

Averaging down on a losing position is not the same as scaling into a winning one. It is the use of additional capital to defend a position that the market is saying is wrong — rather than accepting the defined loss and protecting the account for the next setup.

The Correction The stop is the only response to a trade moving against the position. When it hits — it hits. No additional entries to reduce the average. No moving the stop further away to give it more room. The stop was placed for a reason: that level is where the trade thesis is no longer valid. When price reaches it, the thesis is no longer valid. Accept it and move on.

Mistakes 9 Through 12 — Process and Consistency Errors

MISTAKE 09 Skipping the Sunday Routine After a Bad Week

A difficult week — two losses, one scratch — produces a psychological withdrawal from the process. The Sunday routine feels pointless after results like that. "What is the point of marking levels on a chart that keeps going against me?" The routine is skipped or done incompletely. Monday arrives without weekly context. Monday's session lacks the frame that the routine would have provided. A marginal Monday trade gets entered. It also loses.

The Sunday routine is most important after bad weeks — not least important. The review component surfaces what went wrong. The bias statement for the new week resets the context and removes the emotional residue of the prior week from the decision-making environment. Skipping it leaves that residue in place and carries it directly into the next session.

The Correction The Sunday routine has no conditional relationship with prior results. It runs every Sunday regardless of what last week looked like. If anything, add one step to the routine after a difficult week: read the previous week's journal entries aloud before beginning the chart review. Hearing the decisions described in your own words, in full context, consistently produces a more accurate assessment of what actually happened than the emotional interpretation of it. MISTAKE 10 Not Journaling No-Trade Days

The session produced no trade — either because the conditions did not meet the criteria or because the setup never developed. Nothing is written in the journal because "nothing happened." Over the course of several months, the journal becomes a record of trades only — with no visibility into how often the method correctly identified sessions to avoid, and no data on what the typical no-trade session looked like versus the sessions that produced entries.

No-trade sessions are as much a part of the method's performance as winning trades. They represent the method's ability to filter out lower-quality opportunities. Without recording them, the journal cannot tell you your actual session-to-trade ratio, your skip accuracy rate, or whether the sessions you traded were the right ones to trade.

The Correction Every session gets a journal entry. No-trade entries take two minutes: date, pair, reason for skip (blown-out range / no clear stop hunt target / news event / marginal setup / Monday reduced quality). That data, accumulated over months, shows the discipline at work — and makes the winning sessions more visible as the correct selections from a filtered set. MISTAKE 11 Changing the Method After Three Losing Trades

Three consecutive losses occur — each one fully rule-compliant, each one a correct process with unfavourable variance. The response is to change something. The stop distance is widened. The entry criteria are loosened. The session timing is shifted. Each change is a reaction to three data points — a sample size that cannot distinguish between normal variance and a systematic problem. The method is not broken. But the changes have now introduced inconsistency that prevents the actual edge from being measured.

This is outcome thinking from Module 10 operating on the method rather than on an individual trade. Three losses does not mean the method is not working. It means three losses occurred. The sample size required to evaluate the method's performance is twenty or more rule-compliant trades — not three.

The Correction The 5% drawdown rule from Module 8 is the appropriate response to a losing streak — reduce to 1% risk and continue the process at reduced size. The method does not change. The review at the 5% threshold asks whether the losses were rule-compliant or rule-breaking. If rule-compliant — continue. If rule-breaking — identify the specific rule that was broken and correct that single behaviour. Nothing else changes. MISTAKE 12 Trading Every Day Regardless of Conditions

The alarm goes off at 2:30 AM. The chart is opened. The checklist is run. The conditions are marginal — blown-out range, no clear target, thin confluence. But the session plan is forced anyway: "I will watch for any setup that develops." London opens. A marginal entry is taken because something appeared that could be interpreted as an M or W formation. It loses. The session's energy was spent, the alarm was set, the time was used — and the outcome was a loss on a setup that the honest application of the checklist would have declined.

Trading every day regardless of conditions is the opposite of what the method asks for. The method asks for maximum selectivity — fewer, cleaner setups taken with full conviction. The edge in this method is not in the frequency of trading. It is in the quality of the selection.

The Correction Reframe the no-trade day as an achievement rather than a failure. The checklist identified that today's conditions do not meet the standard. That identification is the method working correctly. A no-trade day costs nothing. A forced trade in marginal conditions costs the stop distance — which, applied repeatedly across multiple marginal sessions, produces a drawdown that clean sessions would not have generated. The best traders in this method trade two to three times per week on average — not five. How to Use This Lesson Going Forward

Do not try to memorise all twelve mistakes before you have encountered them. Instead, use this lesson as a diagnostic reference during the weekly review. When a session produced an unexpected loss or a worse-than-expected outcome — open this lesson and read through the twelve descriptions. The one that matches what happened will be immediately recognisable. Apply the correction. Log it in the journal as the specific error and specific correction. Track whether the same mistake recurs in subsequent weeks. If it does — the correction is not yet implemented deeply enough. If it does not — the work is done.
